5 Bullet Friday – 7 July 2023
Hope you had a fab week 🙂
Here are some of my learnings or updates from the last 7 days:
Let your team or someone hold you accountable. One of my colleagues called me out on something that maybe I should be cracking on with this week. In truth, she and the rest of the team could have made their own progress, but I believe in focusing on what I can do, so this was the kick up the backside I needed to get it done!
I had a big expenses review recently and saved a few thousand a year! As part of what we do with Profit First, we recommend reviewing your expenses line by line each quarter. When was the last time you did this?! It’s about the ROI on your expenses and not just simply cutting things. In other words, some expenses are essential costs, some are an investment, and some are maybe ‘nice to have.’
Stay curious. We get a bit lazy and biased as we get older. Staying curious and open-minded helps us fight off the danger of becoming stagnant in our businesses and careers. How can you have more of a childlike intrigue and ask more questions? Better questions = Better answers.
Don’t take anything for granted. My son started washing my car recently, and it was a ‘win-win’ situation. I saved money, and he had more money in his GoHenry account. However, he rested on his laurels and, despite my reminders, failed to keep up the responsibility. So I took my custom elsewhere! We should never take our customers for granted.
Mix up your environment. I get a bit bored working in the same four walls, so I often swap my home and office throughout the week and even in the same working day. I recently found out that All Bar One lets you book a work area for the morning or afternoon at no cost other than ordering some food! I am giving it a go tomorrow, and they even give you free tea and coffee (I’ll let you know about the coffee!).
PS – I will give my son Joe a second chance!
PSS – The Profit First Club has been fleshed out now, and I am super excited to start sharing the details on this 🙂
Thanks
Steve
